The Ark has a private, state-of-the art surgical suite where even the most complex procedures can be performed in a sterile environment. Both Dr. Hageman and Associates perform a wide variety of surgical procedures ranging from routine sterilization such as spaying and neutering to advanced fracture repairs. If need be, Dr. Hageman has access to and will call in a surgical specialist to assist in more complicated procedures.
We offer ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography to our patients. This painless diagnostic tool allows us to obtain images inside animals' bodies using sound waves that penetrate the internal organs. These images are then projected on a computer monitor. A hand-held probe is placed on the skin over the area being studied. No ionizing radiation (x-ray) is involved in ultrasound imaging.
Ultrasound is an excellent, non-invasive tool that is very useful to study the heart and its vessels, as well as the liver, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, prostate gland, and other internal organs. It is a non-invasive option in cases where the next step would often be an exploratory surgery.
Our onsite laboratory and radiology allows for convenient and timely diagnosis of common medical problems. An off-site reference laboratory assists in piecing together clues to solve more complicated health problems. Pet owners have the benefit of a full pharmacy at the Ark which allows for immediate treatment, as well as an extensive network of off-site pharmacies that provide even the most obscure remedies. Being part of an international network of veterinarians, Dr. Hageman has acess to hundreds of specialists from all over the world to consult with if need be.
X-rays can be used to detect a variety of ailments including arthritis, different forms of cancers, lung diseases including pneumonia, bladder and kidney stones. They are alsoused to evaluate bone damage, organ integrity and identify foreign objects that may have been ingested.
Our skilled veterinarians will take x-rays as a part of a diagnostic procedure if your pet is experiencing any health conditions or as preventive measure in a routine senior wellness examination.
The Ark offers cutting edge digital radiography that delivers crystal clear images in a fraction of the time as conventional radiography while reducingexposure from harmful radiation by up to 90%. Digital radiography also allows Dr. Hageman and Associates to enlarge and zoom the image to see structures in great detail whereas conventional radiography was simply an image on film without the ability to manipulate the image to evaluate in detail. Additionally, with the benefit of using digital radiography versus conventional x-rays, our doctors can transfer these images for further consultation to any specialist around the world via the web.
